My Story
I’m passionate about helping people who need therapy but feel it’s a luxury they can’t afford. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences openly. I bring my genuine self to every session, hoping it encourages clients to feel comfortable being their authentic selves. So who am I?
I’m LaShell Haynes, an LPC-Associate supervised by Kimberly Harkey. I began my journey in mental health in 2018, unsure at first if therapy was the right path for me, but the more time I spent supporting others, the more my passion for helping people grow and heal took root.
In 2020, I took a leap of faith and began my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Colorado Christian University. I’ve always been deeply interested in diversity and how culture shapes identity. Attending a faith-focused university helped me gain perspective on how faith and worldview influence our sense of self, both positively and negatively.
I earned my Master’s degree in December 2022 and became an LPC-Associate in January 2023. You might wonder why I've been an associate for a while. That is a great question! Initially, I focused on indirect care, overseeing mental health case managers and caring for a larger population. In late 2024, I returned to providing direct care, dedicating myself to supporting clients and moving toward full licensure.
A little more about me: I am diagnosed with AuDHD and live with a chronic illness, which helps me empathize deeply with the challenges people face. I love my pets, you might see them pop into the background from time to time! I also enjoy reading, learning, and growing in my personal life, just like I support my clients in doing. I strive to live by the same words I share with my clients.
Work History
2018 – Case Manager
I began my career as a case manager, supporting adults with MDD, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorders. This experience gave me a deep understanding of mental health challenges and the importance of accessible, individualized care.

2020 – 2023: Indirect Care & Internship Experience
From 2020 to 2023, I shifted to indirect care, supervising case managers to ensure high-quality support for clients. While supervising in 2021, I also began my Master’s internship, which required me to meet with people both virtually and in person. During this time, I was introduced to new populations that sparked a passion in me, including survivors of domestic violence, family members impacted by homicidal violence, and individuals experiencing mental health crises.

2024 – Direct Care with Children & Teens
In 2024, I returned fully to direct care, working with children and teens involved in the foster care system who were experiencing mental health and behavioral health crises. This experience taught me a great deal about the systems that can create barriers to care for children already facing significant challenges.

2025 – Virtual Therapy
Since 2025, I have focused exclusively on providing virtual therapy, expanding access to compassionate and affordable care for clients in Texas.
